The Bible, made up of the Old and New Testaments, is a collection of many books written over thousands of years by many authors. The books include the genres of history (e.g. Genesis, Exodus and Acts of the Apostles), poetry (e.g. Psalms, Song of Solomon), Law (e.g. Leviticus) and letters (e.g. Romans, Ephesians). Within these books are other literary devices which the reader should be aware of: parables (short fictitious narratives with moral truths such as the Parable of the Two Sons) and allegories (stories with veiled meanings which teach spiritual values).
Inspiration by the Holy Spirit
Christians believe that the Bible is inspired by the Holy Spirit. “The divinely revealed realities, which are contained and presented in the text of Sacred Scripture, have been written down under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.” De Verbum 11. Therefore, the Holy Spirit must also be the Interpreter of Scripture. “In Sacred Scripture, God speaks to man in a human way. To interpret Scripture correctly, the reader must be attentive to what the human authors truly wanted to affirm and to what God wanted to reveal to us by their words.” Dei Verbum 12.
Criteria for Interpretation
The Catholic Church gives certain criteria which the reader of the Bible can use to interpret it correctly (Catechism of the Catholic Church 109-114):
- Work Scheduling Programs
- Schedule For Nfl
- Bible Book Schedule Teach
- Child Education Game Physical
- Carl Levins Educational Background
