As of August 2010, disability employment statistics showed that the percentage of people with disabilities in the U.S. labor force was 22 percent, while that of people without disability was 70.2 percent, according to the United States Department of Labor. The statistics further showed that the unemployment rate for persons with disability was 15.6 percent compared to 9.3 percent for persons without disability.

Disability is a condition where a person's function is judged significantly impaired relative to the usual standards of groups or individuals. Disability can occur to anybody from birth or in the course of a person’s lifetime, taking forms such as physical body impairment, cognitive or intellectual impairment, mental disorder, sensory impairment or even chronic diseases. Disability job placement testing is a measure designed to correct the glaring imbalanced statistics that exist in the employment field between persons without disability and persons with disability.

Rights of Disabled Persons

Persons with disability have rights just like any other person. It is prohibited by U.S law for employers to discriminate against qualified applicants or employees on the basis of a disability in any aspect of employment, according to the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act of 2008.
