Problems with Bible Reading Schedules

Most programs fail to keep you reading in both Testaments. The most common "read through the Bible in a year" program is to read four chapters a day, starting with Genesis.

The biggest problem with this approach for most people is the waning of interest. It starts to feel like a "grind" to get through the Old Testament. By the time you reach Leviticus, it becomes difficult to follow through with those four chapters a day. The next largest problem with this method is that you will not read from the New Testament for the majority of the year. While any approach to systematically reading the Bible is good, this is only slightly better than randomly choosing Bible verses and books to read. Most people can't follow through with this program due to lack of interest.
